House Letters New Philadelphia Theatre Company Sign
Architecture firm KieranTimberlake Associates recently commissioned House Industries to design the sign lettering for Philadelphia Theatre Company's new home on Broad Street. The mono-weight design of the script serves two purposes: it gives the impression of the patron's signature, while also neatly accommodating the parallel dual-tube neon that illuminates the sign.

The lettering was extrapolated from the signage and retrofitted for several additional applications, including etched glass entryway doors.
Blaktur and Studio Lettering Win Design Awards

I just got word that Blaktur and my forthcoming Studio Lettering collection both received the prestigious Certificate of Excellence in Type Design by the Type Directors Club as part of the organization's 2008 type design competition. Blaktur is available from House Industries, and Studio Lettering, a collection of script faces inspired by mid-twentieth century ad lettering, will be released this spring.
House Industries at University of Akron

On Friday, February 29, I'll be slinging some House BS at Myers School of Art, University of Akron. In addition to giving a behind-the-scenes peek at the latest from House, the presentation will highlight the varied personal and artistic "histories" that contribute to the studio's type and design. The next day I'll be conducting an initial letter workshop, focusing on the use of the lone letter in graphic design.
